An astounding £80 million Red Nose Day total
2nd July 2009
The British public truly raised the fundraising roof for Red Nose Day 2009 - bringing the total to a spectacular £80 million so far.
To have broken all previous records and reached such a high Red Nose Day total when times are incredibly tough is staggering and shows what an extraordinary country we live in.
And that’s not to mention the amazing support we were lucky to get from partners:
- Sainsbury’s raised over £11 million with 6.8 million red noses sold.
- TK Maxx raised over £3.3 million through the sale of exclusive Red Nose Day T-shirts designed by Stella McCartney.
- ..Oh, and there was the small matter of the BT Red Nose Climb up Kilimanjaro which raised over £3.4 million including £1.8 million from Radio 1 and £1 million in £5 text donations following the documentary!
As ever, Lenny Henry spoke for us all: “Everyone across the UK - whether in schools, offices, homes or the blummin’ pub - should be immensely proud of how much they’ve raised for Red Nose Day.”
Already, Comic Relief has invested £6.3m of the money raised from Red Nose Day to help protect over one million people in Africa from malaria.
Comic Relief will spend all the money raised through Red Nose Day 09 to help extremely poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa turn their lives around.
Red Nose Day by Numbers:
- 12.7 million people watched the show, that's more than half of everyone watching TV across the country.
- 2.5 million people visited rednoseday.com
- 410 celebrities played their part in the Red Nose Day campaign
It’s not too late to pay in any cash you raised this Red Nose Day.
